The mobilisation of civil society to pressure states to implement the right to education can have a very powerful impact.
This may be done at school and community level as well as regional, national or international level.
Campaigns can push the government:
- to ratify international treaties that guarantee the right to education
- enact legislation aligned with their international obligations
- adopt policies to guarantee the right to education
Various strategies can be used, inter alia, petitions, demonstrations, meeting with duty-bearers and mobilisation of the media.
Most of the time social mobilisation is used in combination of other strategies such as reporting and litigation.
