OIDEL and the Permanent Mission of Portugal in Geneva organise a seminar on Justiciability of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights: Application of standards on ESCR into domestic Law in collaboration with the Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education, School of Medicine (University of Geneva), Manchester International Law Center (University of Manchester), Collège Universitaire Henry Dunant and the NGO Platform on the Right to Education.

10 June 2015 - 9.30am - 12pm,  Palais des Nations, room XXVII

Following Human Rights Council Resolution 28/20 which underlines the importance of an effective remedy for violations of ESCR, and in this regard takes note with appreciation of measures taken to facilitate access to complaints procedures and the domestic adjudication of cases, as appropriate, for victims of alleged human rights violations; (par. 9) and in its paragraph 10 welcome the steps taken at the national level to implement ESCR, including the enactment of appropriate legislation and adjudcation by national courts, this seminar would like to show, from a cross-‐regional approach, examples of the application of ESCR at the domestic level, particularly examples of Jurisprudence concerning the content of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

The seminar will focus on three rights: the Right to Education, Right to Health and Right to Social Security.
