At this year’s Transforming Education Pre-Summit in Paris, RTE will participate in a UNESCO-led side meeting entitled: ‘Transforming education: the need to expand the international legal framework'.

The session will take place on 29 June from 9am to 10am Central European Time (GMT+2), both in person in Room VII, UNESCO headquarters, and online.

This session continues UNESCO’s reflection into the evolving dimensions of the right to education, and seeks to highlight and explore the need to expand the international legal framework to address existing and emerging education challenges and opportunities, in order to build the foundation for the transformation of education.

The event will be introduced by Mr Borhene Chakroun, Director, Division for Policies and Lifelong Learning Systems, Education Sector, UNESCO. 

 

Speakers on the panel include: 

  • Delphine Dorsi, Director, Right to Education Initiative 

  • Koumbou Boly Barry, UN Special rapporteur on the right to education 

  • Mercedes Mayol Lassalle, World President, World Organization for Early Childhood Education (OMEP)

  • Bede Sheppard, Deputy Director, Children’s Rights Division, Human Rights Watch

  • Ms Ana Raquel Fuentes, Human Rights Advocacy - Education Policy Research, Latin American Campaign for the Right to Education (CLADE)

  • Mr Vernor Muñoz, Head of Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns, Global Campaign for Education (GCE) 

  • Ms Maria Ron Balsera, TaxEd Alliance Coordinator, ActionAid

 

The Pre-Summit will run in Paris between 28-30 June. The objective of the Pre-Summit is to engage discussions and develop a shared vision and suggestion actions ahead of the Transforming Education Summit which will be held in New York in September 2022.
