Between 15-17 June 2022, the Seventh International Conference on Adult Education (CONFINTEA VII) was held in Marrakech, gathering civil society organisations (CSOs), representatives of states, educational personnel and students, and members of international organisations to discuss adult learning and education for sustainable development.
During the conference, the Marrakech Framework for Action on Adult Learning and Education was adopted by 142 Member States. This soft law instrument will guide the development of Adult Learning and Education over the coming decade.
The Marrakech Framework replaces the Belém Framework for Action, adopted in 2009 by 144 UNESCO Member States. This Framework has been instrumental as a guide with regards the development of policy and practice and has also been used to monitor and report on states’ progress with respect to Adult Learning and Education.
The Marrakech Framework for Action is available here.
