On 23 January, 2015, South Sudan became the 195th State party to the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).
The CRC is the most widely ratified international human rights treaty. With Somalia undergoing the process of finalising ratification of the CRC, this leaves the United States as the sole non-State party.
In a media statement, the Committee on the Rights of the Child welcomed the ratification and went on to urge States that have ratified the Convention to:
"fulfil their obligations to respect, protect and fulfil the human rights of all children. Ratification is an important step that brings with it a commitment towards implementation."
