South Sudan Ratifies Convention on the Rights of the Child
On 23 January, 2015, South Sudan became the 195th State party to the Convention on the Rights of the Child [1] (CRC).
The CRC is the most widely ratified international human rights treaty. With Somalia undergoing the process of finalising ratification of the CRC, [2] this leaves the United States as the sole non-State party.
In a media statement [3], the Committee on the Rights of the Child welcomed the ratification and went on to urge States that have ratified the Convention to:
"fulfil their obligations to respect, protect and fulfil the human rights of all children. Ratification is an important step that brings with it a commitment towards implementation."
