African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child
The African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child sets out a much broader and more comprehensive right to education than that provided for in the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights. Article 11 provides that every child shall have the right to an education. The provision incorporates aspects of Articles 28 and 29 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in its outline of the aims of education, and it prescribes measures that States must take as part of their efforts to achieve the full realisation of this right.
